I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Amidst the American Civil War, the people of New Fraternity, Indiana are trying their best to stay out of the conflict. Despite this they find themselves feuding among themselves as a mysterious beast prowls the forest surrounding the town.

The art palette has dark tones. There were times where the passage of time is a bit unclear and we have to figure out how everything fits together. We are introduced to a pleura of characters who each have their own vision of how New Fraternity should operate. Once the beast is found, everything falls to chaos as the fears of people become overwhelming. The true colors of the citizens are shown.

While reading, there was this cloud of mystery surrounding New Fraternity. Where did Emile, the feral child, come from? Why is this mysterious beast active now? Just what is this beast and is it trying to find something? Unfortunately these questions are still shrouded in mystery.

I’m sure if I take the time to analyze the graphic novel, everything would make more sense. Am I just hoping there is some deeper meaning that was lost in translation or did I just miss what this graphic novel is about? I did enjoy the graphic novel, but I’m left full of questions.
