So my reading plans did not go as planned. After my third book I kind of went on a Criminal Minds marathon. Landline by Rainbow Rowell was on my TBR, but I actually read it a day early since I forgot the readathon started on Monday, not Sunday. I got too excited to read since I finished Steelheart three days before it started; therefore, made me confuse the days.
I managed to complete six of the seven reading challenges. For my first readathon I’m actually impressed. Who knew that reading on a deadline actually motivated me.
The first book I read was Vengekeep Prophecies (★★★✬) written by Brian Farrey and illustrated by Brett Helquist. This met the reading challenge of reading seven books. Very contrary, I know. This is book one in the middle grade trilogy The Vengekeep Prophecies. I did find myself not having much empathy for the Grimjinx family and much more empathy for the citizens of Cindervale. I guess there would be a message to be told about conning people, but I guess I just don’t have that much empathy for them. I did enjoy the adventure and the interactions between the characters though. I know that I am curious on how Jaxter, the main character, would develop after how the book ended. The story did have a proper conclusion so have no worries, it’s not a cliffhanger. Reading the next book is not a priority to me, but if I come across the next book then I will definitely pick it up.
